Personal memory by Christopher Fischer
2012 • Eureka Springs, AR, USA
I happened recently upon a Williams Crayfish at Cardinal Spring, some 1200 from my home in a nearby public park. I very carefully excavated an area of gravel below an ancient outcropping in the discharge area of the spring. I photographed the creature. This endemic species is generally found in running streams in a limited area of the Ozark Mountains. I invited a biologist with the ARG&FC to conduct a search for this creature. He was not able to find any in three different locations near the spring. I fear this creature will disappear from this location.
