I grew up on a large farm in N.Dakota. My great grandparents homesteaded there. When I was a child my Grandmother would point out a dip in the earth in our large front lawn that was where the buffalo used to run. She would also tell of how the grass was so tall that when a man (or woman) was on a horse you could only see the top of their hat.
