Personal memory by Nicole Sheren
1982 • Morovis, Puerto Rico
When my parents were first married, they fell asleep every night to the sounds of a forest full of Coquí frogs chirping their trademark call, "coquí!" Today, when I visit the island, I have to concentrate just to make out one or two of their calls. The population has suffered significant losses due to infection by a pathogenic fungus, and the soundscape of Puerto Rico has changed for the worse.
