Personal memory by Renae Russell

I can remember as a child going to Big Cypress Indian Reservation to spend time with my sister and her father. I was completely amazed when I got there and got to see a Florida Panther. Over the years I have only had the chance to see a few of the beautiful creatures, and they have always been in cages. Florida Panthers used to thrive here in South Florida, they are our state animal. Yet hunting has made them almost extinct. I can remember hearing stories about people siting these creatures, but those stories slowly faded. With the population of South Florida growing so rapidly the panthers have decreased in number till only a few hundred remain wild.
