The Fish

2010On a tributary of the Li River, on the way to Yangshuo, Guilin, China

The water is clean and clear—they can still drink from the river if they boil it. But I saw no fish. Many snail egg sacs everywhere though. Can’t help but think that the lack of fish has led to an overabundance of snails, which then eat the crops and then the farmers use pesticides to kill the snails.
