Personal memory by Edward de Liva Regis
1975 • Manaus, Brazil
“I remember when I was 15 years old I used to go 60 km around Manaus and there was a lot of forests and streams and one thing I remember especially was one kind of monkey, the bare-faced tamarin, endemic to a radius of 80 km around Manaus. Now we rarely see this monkey. That is because of the loss of habitat, which has been taken over by condominiums and private mansions. However, it is forbidden by law any construction 50 meters from this forest and stream.”
