Personal memory by Jacob
2000 • Alachua, FL, USA
I am from one of the small rural towns near Alachua. Growing up in that area I spent most my childhood in the woods or on the Santa Fe river. Among the first jobs I had was to work for farmers, mostly cattle farmers. We would run fences repair fences and help to take care of the animals. I also worked for produce farms planting, harvesting and tending crops. These were large farms with a lot of woodlands between them. Now a lot of these farms have been sold and residential areas are being built in their place. It is sad for me, not only to see the familys that I had worked with lose land but also see a lot of woodlands be removed knowing that it's something we will now not be able to get back.
