Sea Turtles

“In those twenty leagues… the seas was thick with turtles… so numerous that it seemed the ships would run aground on them and were as if bathing in them.” – Christopher Columbus, 1492

Today, six of the seven species of marine turtles are listed as Endangered or Critically Endangered, and the outlook is increasingly grim.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Campaign to implement more turtle protector devices and to make long lines, trawls, gill nets, dredges and other methods of harmful fishing gear illegal. 

• Only buy sustainably caught, MSC-certified fish that guarantee safe fishing practices. 

• Never eat turtle meat. Don’t purchase turtle meat or turtle shell products.
