On June 14th 2018, after tropical storm Beryl hit the Caribbean, a massive amount of plastic and trash flowed down the Ozama River and into the Ocean leaving all the beaches in Santo Domingo with a thick carpet of over 100 metric tons of trash. Over 1000 public workers and 3 excavators worked all day for over 7 days to remove the trash from the beach.
