2022 CE • Sri Lanka
We visited a beach in Sri Lanka to litter pick. The beach was covered in waste including many face masks from COVID-19, toothbrushes, plastic. These were the same beaches that female turtles returned to to lay their eggs. We were told any form of pollution, whether that be waste, light, noise, deterred the mothers and they would miscarry all their eggs. Much of the waste appeared to not be from Sri Lanka, which made it even more devastating that the waste was by no fault of their own.
