Literal Slice Of Life

Personal memory by Trish Buckley

2014Okinawa Prefecture, Japan

When I used to live in Okinawa, I absolutely loved the vast experiences and nature that I used to see. I used to go to this waterfall way up in the mountains that tourists or other Americans didn't really know about and would spend hours on end just enjoying the sounds and scenery. I didn't go very often as I was afraid it would attract more people to go to the location and have it suddenly turn into a "party spot". Sure enough though someone else had discovered my little sanctuary and covered it in trash and waste. When ever I went after that I would try to collect as much junk as I could, and take it with me when I would leave, but over time, I started to see the repercussion and negligence of the other people so much that I actually saw the water in the area diminishing and drop in depth from the trash. I wish I didn't have to lose something so easy to maintain and keep beautiful because others are too lazy to clean up the junk that they bring.
