Personal memory by Laura Chiarandini
2008 • Lakoma, Germania
In 2003 the lakes of Lakoma and the river Hammergraben were recognised as flora and fauna habitat of European importance. More than 170 endangered species of Brandenburg, among which Osmoderma eremita and Bombina bombina, could here find place. Between 2008 and 2010 the whole area was destroyed by the digger. The expansion of the adjacent brown coal open pit was considered more important. The Robin Hood association with lots of sympathisers occupied the area for months in vain. In 2007, before the decision was made, the area was already in a piteous situation. The effects of the pit had been since long visible in the loss of water in the lakes. In the air, the feeling of life going lost.
