Personal memory by Gabriel Alvarez
2011 • Honduras
Honduras, my country of birth, has a unique species of bat that can't be found almost anywhere else. This bat, called the Honduran White Bat is not seeking to suck any blood, they only eat fruit or vegetation. Since Honduran white bats live mainly under heliconia leaves, rainforest destruction is a serious threat. These beautiful creatures that you could literally hold in the palm of your hand are so beautiful to witness. In these past few years, Honduras has been affected by "gorgojos" known as True Weevils, which are insects that destroy trees by the thousands, severely affecting the ecosystem. We can't let such a creature disappear by causes we can get rid of if we work together.
