Theophrastus of Eurasia developed a theory that linked deforestation to decline in rainfall in Greece and Crete. "The trend of the Romans' actions affecting the environment over the centuries was destructive. They exploited renewable resources faster than was sustainable, and consumed nonrenewable ways and placed an insupportable demand on the natural resources available to them."
