Granite Gorge

Personal memory by Liam P

In my hometown of Keene, New Hampshire there is a small sized ski & snowboard mountain called Granite Gorge. Growing up, I would go every winter with my parents and friends etc. I remember being able to see the dense surrounding forest from the summit, not a house in sight. In 2017 I left New Hampshire after graduating high school to come to college in Florida. When I would come home for breaks I noticed that the area around Granite Gorge was beginning to be cleared out for houses to be built in the area. I couldn't help but notice since we drive through the area to get to the airport, and my parents would also tell me about it. Over last spring break I skinned up the mountain with my father after it had closed for the season but snow still remained. When we got to the top, I realized it had been quite some time since I had been at this peak, and I also realized how different everything looks now. There was new houses, trees cleared, and it did not look like the same dense forest I used to see.
