I am a tour guide of the Lake Champlain waterfront. I'm told by my supervisor that in 1970 he could walk out to Juniper Island on the lake ice in the winter. The shipping industry would shut down until the ice broke. The winters have been warmer and warmer I've been here 3 years and the water has not froze yet.
