Personal memory by Oldest Man in Uros Island
1940 • Uros Island, Peru
The oldest man on Uros island remembers a time when he was a child and the lake was less full. But then it became very full and in the last 10 years it has been shrinking. He cannot say that the water level is definitely dropping—because of this flux—but he definitely knows that the rainy season has become much shorter. Also, the reeds that they use to make their homes are disappearing. They now have to go further and further out to find the right size reeds.
