Personal memory by Josh C

The Wakarusa wetlands, located just south of Haskell Indian Nations University, is home to some of the greatest biodiversity in the area. It also is of great historical and cultural significance to HINU, which previously served as an Indian boarding school. After two decades of opposition, construction of the South Lawrence Trafficway began in 2013. The completed bypass will cut directly through the wetlands, significantly impeding the habitat's biological and ecological functions.
