The Ivy Garden

2015North Carolina, USA

I remember when I was a young child, I for a time, lived in a small town in North Carolina near the southern state border. In this time I remember there being an area of one of the local mountains that you could see from town, where a large portion of the trees were simply missing. I remember asking my mother why there were no trees there on the mountain as it was nowhere near the mountain's peak where the trees would naturally become more sparse. That day I learned that there was actually a logging company which was cutting down the trees for lumber. I moved away soon after but I ended up briefly coming back around a decade later for a visit. Upon arriving I was was pleasantly shocked to find that the patch on the mountain was beginning to be filled in as people had planted trees on the mountain to counter the deforestation after the company left. It was amazing getting to see the healing of the place I once called home.
