Offshore in the Northwest Atlantic in 1996 I saw a white horizon on the surface of the sea. It was about 1/4-mile in diameter. From a distance, it looked like a field of snow. As I sailed through it I realized it was a vast floating raft of plastic made mostly of Styrofoam"Dunkin Donuts" cups.
