Snakes

When I was a boy on Long Island in the early '70's snakes were ubiquitos. It wouldn't be uncommon to catch 30-40 in an hour, mostly Garters and Brown DeKay's, but also Milk Snakes and Hognose and Black Rat snakes. It seemed that all you had to do was to turn over a rotten log or an old piece of plywood and there'd be 2-3 of them coiled up under there that a boy could catch and hold. I let most of them go but did form a snake club at one point. I found 100's of snakes as a child.
