Personal memory by Leticia Fornari

My grandfather grew up in São Paulo, Brazil. I remember hearing stories about when he was my age and he would swim in the Tiete River, a river that extends along the whole city, kinda like the Chicago River. There would be canoe competitions, boats on the weekends, and every summer social activity would be planned around the river. Today, it is one of the most polluted rivers ever, it has no wildlife whatsoever and it also contains contaminated foam. It is sad to see what just a few decades of humanity can do to nature.
