Personal memory by Lisa D'Andrea
1997 • East Hampton, NY, USA
I have always loved animals. I became more interested in birds when I offered to do Project Feederwatch for Cornell Univ. back in the 1980s. After we sold our business I wanted to do something for the environment and I got a job with the Town of East Hampton Natural Resources in 1997. that summer I began my work on protecting the Piping plover and Least Terns breeding on Long Island. I have been at it ever since. Each year the pressures continue to increase against these birds--predators, dogs, cats, increased use of the beaches, loss of habitat. If they are to survive -They will never not need to be managed.
