Monarch butterflies in NW CT: after the US Army Corps of Engineers strengthened dam safety after a fatal 1976 Western dam burst, Corps-mandated dam mowing eradicated milkweed that the formerly abundant migratory butterflies depended on. Thus regulatory decisions following events in Idaho took the Monarch from the CT summer landscape.
