Personal memory by Thomas Meagher
2013 • Owatonna, MN, USA
During the second week of December in southern Minnesota I came upon the tracks of a running Jack Rabbit in the snow while teaching a small groups of students. These were the first tracks of Lepus townsendii that I have seen in over 20 years. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has been collecting data of Jack Rabbit populations since 1955 and beginning in 1993 their population has been observed at less than one individual per 100 square miles.
