Personal memory by Martha McSherry
1989 • Dane, ON P0K, Canada
I moved to a boreal forest environment in my early twenties from a hardwood forest area close to the Great Lakes in S. Ontario. Both the forest and the lakes were showing signs of neglect. I felt a commitment to protect my N. Ontario environment from S. Ontario's residual municipal waste being dumped into iron ore pits filling with groundwater from the Arctic Watershed. Environmental protection seeped into me from my father when we would trek out on hikes into the woods and inevitably pick up any garbage left by others.
