Personal memory by Jayralee Pina

Not too long ago, my family and I would visit the local beaches and look out onto the pier, swim in the water, and spend time together. I am an observer, and have always been that way. After countless visits to the Yacht Club, the local beach in the area, I began to notice on each visit that the water wasn't as pretty as it used to be. I started to think that there was something wrong. This was years before the news had mentioned anything about the Lake O. releases that ruined southwest Florida beaches; eventually signs were put up warning visitors to stay out of the water, and at that point I knew something was up. Fast forward to present day, and the Lake O. releases are the big story. It all made sense. I wish there was something that could be done to bring back the beautiful scenery I loved as a kid.
