Horseshoe Crab

Personal memory by Anna Bickford

1998Hingham, MA, USA

When I was a little girl, the neighborhood my family lived in had two different beaches within it. We were always there and, in addition to searching for seaglass and seashells, my dad would help us find horseshoe crabs to put back in the water that had gone too far upshore. I have moved a couple times since then but go to that same beach every year. There are no longer any horseshoe crabs. I do not know if they migrated somewhere else, but what was once common, is now non-existent.
