Personal memory by Susan L.

A few years ago I was in the Amazon for a research project. A friend pointed out the abandoned nest of a harpy eagle. One of the guides at the lodge where we were staying told us that when he had worked at an illegal logging operation nearby, men he knew had killed a harpy eagle. When I asked why, he said he didn't know. Just because it was there and they had a gun. He'd kept one of the claws for a while, but he lost it somewhere. He said it was the size of a child's hand.
