It is commonly cultivated, both as an ornamental plant and for its medicinal properties, yet at the same time, the tree is endangered in its native habitat. Ginkgos belong to the group, Gymnosperms, which includes conifers and cycads, and is one of the most threatened groups of living organisms on Earth.
