Personal memory by Khang Le
2000 • Việt Nam
In 2000, I had a chance to witness a forest fire during the days of summer in the central of Vietnam. I do not remember the name of that province, but the thing that I remember most is the people there do not give their attention to the natural and forest ecosystem. No one feel sad about the fire, and no one seems to make a great effort to rescue it. That incident could bring the people there some benefit like land resource to enlarge their farming area. But they do not know and they will never see the consequence after. It takes more than a decade to growth a tree, but it's just less than a minute to destroy all the forest. I hope that our children and next generations will see this story as a lesson. Moreover, I also hope that they will realize that every people has more than one mother, and that is our green nature.
