Personal memory by Karen Poirier

Growing up in the early 1970's about 10 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA, I used to play in a forest stream with my brothers. There was a small natural pool under a little waterfall where we would go in the summer. It wasn't deep enough to swim but we'd wear our swimsuits and get in and troll around. We often found crayfish under the rocks there. Since that time, dozens of housing developments have moved in upstream, and the area has been flooded by stormwater drainage multiple times. There are no more crayfish. I wonder about the quality of the water.
