"The natives of Choiseul knew the birds by the name of kukuru-ni-lua (pigeon-belong-ground) and those few who still remembered suggested they were resident in lowland - swampy forest but not mangrove. . . . In some other parts only the older inhabitants remembered the species, remarking that introduced cats had killed many individuals and recalling how easily the birds could be caught by hand at their roosts."
