China leads the way in renewable energy, accounting for "50.9 percent of the country’s power capacity . . . China’s renewable capacity has grown rapidly in recent years due partly to investments in wind and solar megaprojects in the country’s sparsely populated west that export power to manufacturing centers in the east." China doubled its capacity to 1,200 gigawatts of energy through wind and solar power by 2025. As the country emits the most greenhouse gases of any country and accounts for around half of the world’s coal consumption, it has committed to continue to grow its renewable energy capacity, making significant strides in the last decade.
