There was a time when there were dense pockets of pine tree forests on the outskirts of Yellowstone National Park. I worked at Yellowstone a few summers back to make sure people didn't jump into mud pits or anything, and I watched as over the summer many of those pockets of forest disappeared for one reason or another.
