Personal memory by Cricket Uttech

Growing up at the edge of a small lake in upstate NY, my family and I would sit out every summer evening and watch the barn swallows gracefully darting over the water. They came out in swarms, with their distinctive forked-tails, to feast on the mosquitoes that rose from the lake edges at sundown. I remember being amazed at how many there were, and how they could fly so quickly and crowded together without running into each other! I'm not sure when it changed, but now it's rare to see even one in our area.
