A Blooming Agriculture Of Houses

Personal memory by sophy Burnham

1964Virginia, USA

Just in my short lifetime I have seen our best agriculture land sold to developers, who develop houses! On good, productive, food-growing soil. Now we ship food from the far corners of the world -- broccolki from China, blueberries from Peru, because our own land grows only houses, each with a lawn to be watered, each with a two-hour commute to the city places of work. Later, when transportation is too expensive, will we starve to death for lack of forests and farm land? In 1964 ten miles from the White House my grandmother still used horses to pull the hay wagon on her farm . A few years later, it was suburban development and Dead Run was a gully instead of a living stream.
